The Greater Vaal Region have so much to offer tourists, visitors, businesses and local residents. The history of the smaller towns in the region or well documented locally, but not well-known to the visitors and tourists we want to attract.

Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve, Vredefort Dome, the Battlefields, Vaal River, River Cruises, House Boating, River Rafting, Tubing, Kayaking, Skydiving, Abseiling, Horse Trails, Hiking, Ziplining, Mountain Biking, Off Road Go Karting, 4x4 Routes, Trail Running are just a few of the activities the region offers.

The section of the Vaal River from Parys into the Vredefort Dome is the busiest section of any river in South Africa, with various water-focused activities offered by commercial operators in the area and a major job creation hub.

The stretch of river above the Barrage with 57 kilometres of navigable water offer water skiing, wakeboarding, river cruises, house boating and leisure craft.  The Vaal Dam is well known for yachting with it's vast open water surface and hosts many regattas during the year with the most well-known Round the Island annual race taking place every year in February.

Midvaal is an area in our region that is exceptional with large open spaces, a large equestrian area, the well-known Art Farm and the very popular Bass Lake, that offers the best inland scuba diving facility in the country plus many other activities. Truly an area that must be explored.

Parys and many of the other smaller towns offer quaint shops, galleries, excellent restaurants and historical places of interest. The Vredefort Dome World Heritage Site known world wide, is the jewel in the crown of our beautiful region with so much to offer, historical tours, some of the best mountain biking routes, trail running, river rafting, horse trails, restaurants, ziplining and so much more.

As a region we can capitalize on the fact that we are in close proximity to the major metropolitan areas and with a combined effort under the Vaal Explorer banner, working together as partners to promote our region in every possible way as a destination holiday option.
